Good morning and happy Sunday!
I need to get something off my chest. As much as I appreciate the earnest effort of all those trying to provide vegans with “donuts,” I have to say I’ve grown to loathe baked donuts. Too many times, I have trekked off to cafes in hopes of obtaining vegan donuts, only to be disappointed by lumpy baked cakes with wholes in them. I briefly experimented with a donut pan myself to see if I could do something about it, but quickly gave up and decided that one day I would deep fry the perfect donut!
This weekend was my first experiment in baking an earnest, yeasted, fried donut, and here are the results! These are a vanilla maple variety. A little crisp on the outside, soft and airy on the inside, and the perfect touch of sweetness. I am very pleased with these as I haven’t had a yeasted donut since Oregon!
Not to be a jerk, but I am so stoked on this recipe and tweaking it more I am not going to share it. I will say that my recipe was adapted from an existing non-vegan Food Network recipe and was actually quite basic! Instead I will share pictures hoping you will want to come hang out with me and buy some when I am finally out and about at local farmers market! I am actually hoping to start introducing my product in February though, so Edmonton and Calgary folk hold tight!
Also, special thanks to my dad, who helped me not start a fire my first time deep frying a donut. Best kitchen help ever!

These look amazing!
I’m quite glad I don’t live on the same continent – I would put on many many pounds if I had easy access to that deliciousness!
Donuts are one of my favorite indulgences, and these look perfect!
